A Poem for my Son:

Beautiful Boy

Beautiful boy, words hidden away. Drumming to the tune only you can hear. Effulgent stimming to soothe your mind, your laugh is infectious to the crowd. Striving to meet your joy with love. For my love is an ocean inside a single tear, shed the moment of your birth. You are the sun. Leading me upward out of rabbit holes. Shaking me from the grips of hallucination. A beacon. A shining thing. A lighthouse in the tempest of my illnesses. You bring me home. Thank God above for your tenacious capacity for jubilation. I’m sorry. For all the times I’ve lost my temper. For your innocence is a pure thing, sullied by my anger at this judgemental world. A world that would place you under a label, only to leave you behind. You are so much more than your diagnosis, if only they could see. I love you, son, without limitations. I love you infinity, and always forever. I love you.

A Poem for my Daughter:

Little Dolphin

Little dolphin in my wake
With golden curls that dance
Echoes sung
So innocent
Oh how I long to listen
It’s witchcraft
How you cast a spell
On each passerby
How then do I stand a chance
Against your valkyrie smile?
